Women in the Arts and Crafts Movement in the South Cotswolds with Dr. Jacqueline Sarsby

Women artists are often overlooked by art historians in spite of remarkable talents and accomplishments. In this talk we shall look at the lives and work of a network of artists and friends in Gloucestershire, including Louise Powell, Thérèse Lessore, Eve Simmonds, Edith Payne, Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher.

Dr. Jacqueline Sarsby, guest curator of “The Magical World of William Simmonds”, trainedas a social anthropologist at the London School of Economics and was a tenured lecturerat the University of Kent. She then worked freelance, researching and teaching about theArts and Crafts Movement in the Cotswolds for many years and writing books about andphotographing farming and rural skills.
